REAL LIFE IMPACT

D. Ruvolo, Irvine, CA

I have known Pastor Terry Miller, Executive Director of Calling All Disciples, for over 15 years. During that time I have come to know this man’s heart for service to the Kingdom of God, and his commitment to discipling men. Terry’s passion for sharing the Gospel with an emphasis on discipleship has always been the thrust of his teaching and he has continued as a guest speaker with us. I have a story about Terry that I would like to share that speaks to his heart of sharing the gospel. A few years ago I wanted to ask him if he would visit a veteran and friend of mine who was being cared for at the Veterans hospital in Long Beach. Pete was a friend of mine and coworker at the City of Irvine Police department.

I asked Terry reluctantly if he would visit my Pete who was diagnosed with brain cancer. I was reluctant only because Terry was very busy at the church with his men’s, worship, and preaching duties. I didn’t want to impose on his busy schedule. But I was led to ask him to visit Pete anyway. Without hesitation Terry agreed to visit and share the gospel with my agnostic friend.

Long story short within 6 months of visiting and conversation my friend Pete accepted the Lord and was baptized a few short months before his passing. There is so much more to this story, but I will leave it at that. The point is Terry is a servant leader who practices what he preaches. He is willing to get involved when it comes to sharing and discipling and is obedient to the leading of God’s Spirit.

TESTIMONIALS

As a ministry leader at my church, I often have the opportunity to reach people who are either unsaved, unchurched or just struggling in their faith. The gospel is shared through this ministry, and I wanted to better equip myself. I had heard about Calling All Disciples while at lunch with some friends so I looked into Brother to Brother. The material is written in such a way that it doesn’t matter where you are in your walk.  The exercises and study drive you deeper into the text and give a clearer understanding of the gospel. Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nations. Brother to Brother is a fantastic study guide to walk that journey with another brother.

Several years ago, a friend and I had the opportunity to disciple a new believer, but I soon realized we lacked a "how-to" manual to guide us. Fortunately, Pastor Terry was developing the "Brother to Brother" discipleship course for men.

With the help of this manual and the Holy Spirit, we formed a group with our new believer and two other men. We unanimously agreed that this was one of the most fulfilling experiences of our Christian journey. The growth we witnessed in each of us from week to week was incredibly encouraging.

By the end of the first session, I realized the Lord had given me a calling: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations." It is profoundly fulfilling to be reminded that we are following the last commandment of Jesus before He returned to the Father. I now have a lifelong mission of disciple-making to look forward to.

I had the privilege of taking Life on Life with my husband and one of our grown sons along with our coach and his wife. As we went through the 18 chapters, it truly was like iron sharpening iron. We all challenged each other to take Jesus words in Matthew 28: 18-20 seriously. We knew we were there to complete the course which means we were there to find and disciple others who would also disciple others. The support of the material and the comradely of the group kept us all going and praying who the Lord would give us to disciple. Life on Life is not just a program. It becomes a way of life here on earth, this side of heaven.

The most important thing I’ve learned from going through Life on Life is what Jesus meant when he said, “Follow Me, and I’ll make you fishers of men.” There is nothing on this earth that is more important for me than to make disciples. I’ve learned that in Matthew 4:19, Jesus gave a command, a promise and a vision in only ten words! Thank you, Lord, for this material and the ministry of Calling all Disciples.

As a follower of Jesus, I’m called to disciple others - not in my own strength, but through diligent preparation under the guidance and empowering of the Holy Spirit.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” - 2 Tim 2:15

I’ve found Life on Life to be a Spirit-led and biblically grounded resource that sharpens my understanding and equips me for real-life discipleship. The material is thorough, well-structured, and applicable to discipling others at any stage of spiritual maturity.

Being trained in how to use it has greatly increased my confidence and effectiveness as a disciple-maker. More than that, it has transformed my mindset - from reluctant obedience to joyful eagerness to obey Jesus’ call to “teach them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:20)

Recently I was invited to a men’s retreat sponsored by the Influencers Men’s Ministry. I could feel the power of the Spirit the entire weekend. I decided then and there that I would follow the Lord for the rest of my life and become a faithful and loyal servant. This led me to Pastor Terry Miller and Brother to Brother, a comprehensive 20-week discipleship course, which has empowered me to begin my new journey and mission. With Jesus Christ’s and the Holy Spirit’s help I hope to become a fisher of men. I am looking forward to working with my professional clients, fellow seekers of Christ and wherever else the Holy Spirit guides me.
